Tidal Flood - "Scientific" (Tidal Records 2001, S 3000-2)
Uploaded to Aural Innovations: October 2003
Tidal Flood is an Ozric Tentacles inspired band from Greece and features (I think) George Stavroulakis (guitars), George Karras (bass), Bill Antonakos (keys). This, their second release, is a multimedia extravaganza with 5 music tracks (two 3 min, two 4 min, and one 7 min), 2 videos of 2 of the tracks, and software support (winamp, DVX, flash). The multimedia portion is quite well done, with an opening page that allows installation of the needed software (if you don’t already have it). Following that is a screen that allows selection of the tracks, the videos, or a short bio.
As a big Ozrics fan, I found the music to be highly listenable and very accomplished. Even though they are so obviously an Ozrics clone band, their music has an original quality to it. There are no vocals and a little more emphasis is placed on the keyboards rather than on the guitar. As Tidal Flood continues to evolve, I’m hoping they put more of their own stamp on their creations. But, for now, I really like their stuff.
