Williamson - "A Few Things To Hear Before We All Blow Up"
(self-released 2003)
Uploaded to Aural Innovations: October 2003
Wade Williamson hails from San Francisco, Cali-FORN-nia (see Arnold for correct pronunciation), he also comprises the self-described Indie-rock, experimental electronica project known as Williamson.
The name of the new release (a few things to hear before we all blow up) is timely in its title given the overall state of affairs on a world political level. That said; this debut release is nothing short of astounding.
Combining beautifully intricate guitar melodies, both rock solid AND intelligent drum programming, and atmospheric synth layering, the new Williamson release is an overall masterpiece-truly a winner.
Personal favorites on the disc include: Rubber, Raining at the Crescent House, We’re All Boned, and A Pleasant Goodbye From Whore.
This CD is an absolute must have for fans of Aphex Twin, John Debo, early BT and the like.
I felt this release quite refreshing being that it is less stuffy and melodramatic than other “new-age” or “ambient” releases. Frankly, Williamson is just cool.
The CD is available right now at www.cdbaby.com/williamson and thus, you should have a listen for yourself.
Need more incentive? Fine. He throws a giant “Go Fuck Yourself” to Madonna (a sentiment I fully agree with for the record... I differ on the Don Rumsfeld inclusion) and some others on the inside liner notes. I gotta’ tell you, this guy is right on with both his project and worldview. A- recording. A- attitude.
Keep them coming.
