Kometa - "Gravy" (SUECD-100)

Uploaded to Aural Innovations: September 2003

This is a strange 3-piece Finnish band. The release is on what appears to be their onw private label. The CD contains 5 tracks in about 15 minutes and is really hard to describe. "Trumpeter" starts things off and reminds me of Primus but the bass is not played like Claypool, just the guitar. Mix a heavy riff, a slow wailing pace and then suddenly shouted Melvins (King Buzzo!) like vocals. "Growing A Beard" is next... Well... The strange stuff follows with more heavy riffing like the heavy side of Primus meets the Melvins. "Roll It With Your Own Hands" is a funny strange song. "Mexico" continues the rock trip. "Paris" is a very fast and heavy song that begins with a strange Casio like keyboard sound before taking off. Quite wild and crazy stuff. You have to give it to these guys, they are not easy to categorize and make some cool music!
