Loxley Beade - Promo 2003 (Germany)
Uploaded to Aural Innovations: September 2003
This is a band by Pat Moore, an Englishman living in Germany. The band have existed since 1996. Loxley Beade consists of very cool singer songwriter psychedelic rock music, but not that heavy. It is the most impressive promo package I have ever seen. How to describe it???? Pasted into a large black binder is a cardboard box with different flaps that lift up and pictures covering the whole thing and information and then the cd in the cover. Excellent and impressive stuff!
The first 4 tracks were recorded in 2003 at various places, while the last two tracks are from 1999 and 2000. "Grace" is an excellent song about a girl who is coping with hair loss during cancer treatment. "The Weighted Load" is next and a great song. "Rubble" starts with a nice bass line and acoustic guitar groove as Pat sings about a Berlin bomb site woman. Next is a song about annoying mobile phone users. The vocal is delivered in a way that reminds me of Jonathan from Hieronomyous Firebrain. "Being There" is from 1999 and is a very good sounding 4 track recording. The most mellow track on the CD but nice floating psychedelic stuff. I would love to hear some delays on the vocals occasionally to make it a bit more psychedelic. "Grey" closes the CD and features a Turkish Sass.
If you take the melodic side of Bevis Frond and throw in a little Robin Hitchcock and Reefus Moons, you get something like this, I guess. The band write excellent songs and are in search of a record company to reach a broader audience!
