Hughes-Turner Project - "HTP 2"
(Shrapnel Records 2003, SH11672)

Uploaded to Aural Innovations: January 2004

This is the second record by this vocal duo, both who have played with Deep Purple, but not in the same line up. Joe Lynn Turner mostly made his fame with Rainbow, recording several of their most commercially successfully material, while Glenn played in the 70's Deep Purple, Trapeze, Hughes/Thrall and Black Sabbath. Several of the musicians on this CD are the same as those on Glenn Hughes' solo record (Ed Roth and JJ Marsh). The whole record was written, rehearsed and recorded in 5 weeks in Los Angeles in 2003. The two singers switch off vocals on most tracks. I am not sure whose voice is better but they certainly compliment each other quite well. They have guitarists Jeff Kollman and Steve Vai guest on a few tracks as well. Overall, this is a bit harder than the Glenn Hughes solo record but still in the basic 80's heavy metal rock and roll style stuff. The band is not breaking any new ground here at all but producing solid songs. Again, if you like these two guys and have heard any of their other solo stuff, I can't see how you will go wrong here.
