This is a fantastic musical journey with great CD packaging and artwork. This is the first release and a concept record by core members Joel Hamilton, Matthias Bossi, Carla Kihlstedt and Tony Maimone (Pere Ubu). They are joined by another 13 musicians on various tracks. The sound is fantastic and moving. The narrative is a labyrinth of connections, or knots, tying each segment of the story to the sea. The music is deeply moving and emotional but not mainstream in any way. It really is a CD you want to sit down and play all the way through and enjoy the journey. The music is heavy and dense in sound but overlayed with cool instruments (42 different ones are cited as used) and deep emotion. This record is highly recommended.
