Cucumber Farmer - "Beyond"
(American Brothers 2004, ABROS3)

Wow... some more strange music from Finland. Surprised? This is a damn cool CD. It features a lot of guitars and synthesizers. One guy makes his own string instruments. Fantastic floating soundscapes with heavy guitars. The CD opens with "Sabbath Of Reynold", a religious song with a guest female vocalist. It starts off mellow but a very full sound soon fills your ears with a hard driving Hawkwind like rhythm and some spaced out synths as well. "Sovhoosi" is an 8 minute adventure. Heavy, dark, and mysterious and it builds up into a heavy spaced out universe. "Greyhound Star" is similar to the first track but the dark theme sticks with you as the Jorma guitar and wind synths swirl around in the background. A cool journey. "Jazz-Odysseia" is a 3 part song that is not really very jazzy but pretty psychedelic with repetitive pounding and swirling voices before the second part begins and some nice piano are bounced off the heavy bass line. "Tivoli" is a 1 minute very strange journey to the circus or something. "Bordeaux 1998" is a slow groovy journey into the unknown. The CD ends with a cover of "Interstellar Overdrive" by Pink Floyd and quite a good version. This is an excellent CD that grows with each listen.
