I have to say this is a pretty damn cool CD with many different styles of music. This band (called Moon Fog Prophet in English) has changed with every single release. The last CD I reviewed (Kukin Kaappiaan Selässään Kantaa) was a very folk inspired CD. It appears that I have not heard a couple in between based on looking at the web page below. I saw the band live in Helsinki in 2002 and it was a great concert! Anyway, the most noticeable thing about the CD is the unique voice of Mikka Ratto, who also sings with Circle. The opening track features very passionate singing from Mikka, while the music has a sort of symphonic feeling to it. The next track also reminds me of the Moody Blues in some strange Finnish way. The next track has a cool effected guitar sound and the way the keyboard is melted into it is really great. This one really picks up and gets into a cool groove. The next track is a 1 minute song with a cool blues harmonica. Seems they are just getting started and its over. The next track is quite a special track with a cool groove. The CD ends with a short sound collage of all elements found on the CD, compacted down into a short space of time. That is at least how I perceived it.
This is a very special CD with all types of music represented. Sometimes the music is symphonic, jazzy, damn heavy (Judas Priest like guitar), spaced out or just laid back. If you are adventurous, please check this CD out. You won’t understand the song titles or lyrics unless you understand Finnish but it is excellent stuff.
