Death Race beyond the Stars - Jet Jaguar vs. The Guild Navigators
(Overlord Records CDX03)

From Aural Innovations January 2009 update

This is an interesting meeting of the minds so to speak. Each band takes up about half of the CD and also performs a cover of each band. The bands create music from the same spirit tent and are of like minds to warp and twist your mind with intense proto punk industrial space rock. Jet Jaguar is from Albuquerque, New Mexico and the Guild Navigators from Columbus, Ohio. Both bands material was actually recorded some years back in 2005 and 2006. Not sure if this stuff was lying around or if had been intended for this release since then and it is just coming out now. The CD starts off with Jet Jaguar and I have to say this has some of the best mix (I still don’t really like the drum sound but I know that is how it is suppose to sound for this music. so it sounds good..) of any of the stuff the band has released. The opening track really jets you out into space… Blackhole Killer swirls you out into the universe as well. Clones Inc. starts off with a lot of electronics and a bass drone before it takes off. This one reminds me a lot of Bob Calvert. Falling Towards the Sun is the Guilded Navigators cover. I can’t comment on how it compares to the original as I have never heard that but it is a great track. The Guild Navigators start with a cool intro about having a space race with Jet Jaguar before really blasting out there at hyperspeed, in a sort of Litmus like way. Nurse OnBoard is a more melodic and spacey track. Space Ark really kicks some ass with high intensity space rock. Next is the Jet Jaguar track, She’s an Alien and it has a really phased and spacey guitar and a more lofi sound. Dream jets Burning including an outro ends this very successful meeting of the minds.
