Fleshpress - Pillars
(Kult of Nihilow)
Wow…what the hell... 6 tracks, 77 minutes, deep down into the dark dungeons of oblivion. Set your life aside; take a deep breath as you might not be the same or coming back soon after this mind numbing, bone chilling experiment in slow, blackened sludge, doom, and dungeon rock. It is not like this all the time as the end of the first track becomes a sort of crazed speed metal thing, but with that dark vibe and insane vocals. Phew… you are ready for the next interlude with electronic sound drones, acoustic guitar that leads into the next 19 minute track. It starts out in your face but then becomes a more doom groove thing with crazed vocals like Bongzilla. From 3 to 17 minutes or so things slow down and a repetitive guitar line flows over the heavy riffs and tortured vocals (“Disciples of Nothingness”). Intense ending. The next track is 22½ minutes and begins very melodic and with a clean sound, totally different. The track very slowly gets faster and faster and the sound more distorted and heavy until 6 minutes and then it changes again. Around 9 minutes some very intense guitar soloing begins as the vocals come back as well and the track starts to really rock out. Around 14 or so minutes some spacey synthesizers bubble into the picture as a really cool bass line leads the track in different direction. This part reminds me a lot of Circle as it gets more and more intense. Totally mind blowing track. Now they bring things back down for a slow punishing one. Back to the mental torture chamber, boy! Ok... the end is ripping fast like Kreator. The CD ends with a 9 minute drone track. Phew... hope you survived.. For sure one of the coolest CDs from Finland this year. Amazing CD.
