Pilgrim Fathers - Dr. Niall Bombast and the Tight Minded Scope Trooper EP
(Undergroove UGCD055)

From Aural Innovations January 2009 update

This is a new UK band from Nottingham, who I recently hung out with and saw play with Monster Magnet. This is a 4 track EP (25 minutes) and really diverse stuff. Experimental 70’s progressive psychedelic rock… a bit of a lot of stuff. The opening and title track is 14 minutes long and a great journey of 70’s rock, prog, experimental, and heavy. Hard to describe. Shelf, the lead singer, uses a lot of effects on his voice at different times to create really interesting vibes. Black Sal Pass is totally experimental music and has really spacey cool keyboards and spaced out vocals and feedbacking guitars, until a huge riff kicks in. Track 3, The Unusual Woods, features a huge list of guests (and referred to as the Ambergate Wood Sessions). This is something totally different, like a strange jam in a pub 200 years ago. Great song with horns, acoustic guitars, male and female singing, lap drumming, chimes, etc… Psychedelic mushroom folk…. Cool… A totally unique band.
