Michael Tyack and Genevieve Applebee- Wheal Jane (Private Release CD-R)
A Golden Hour with the Princess in the Tower (Private Release 2009)

From Aural Innovations May 2009 update

This is a limited edition of 25 copies released by Michael Tyack of Circulus. Wheny they offered them up they said they were in handmade cases but they turn out to be just cheap 50p silver glittery boxes that will fit a CD in that you can buy at the card shop. A bit of a downer. Anyway, They are sold out now but I was lucky enough to get one! These sessions were recorded way back in 1996 at Martin Turner’s (Wishbone Ash) analog home studio and they sound great. It is a collection of amazing tracks where Michael plays a lot of different string instruments and Martin plays Mellotron as well as lead guitar on the track Raga. Genevieve has a wonderful airy voice that complements Michael’s in a very nice way. Despite the music being 13 years old, it sounds very fresh. Oh yeah..it is basically slightly psychedelic folk music, a little more minimalistic compared to Circulus. Amazing stuff. Try to find it on a download site if you can or convince Michael to release it properly.

A Golden Hour with the Princess in the Tower (Private Release 2009)

This is another limited edition CD-R of 25 copies released by Michael Tyack of Circulus. As te other one, it was released in a cheap gold glitter CD box. Anyway, this is a collection of 21 tracks of early music and includes several instrumental pieces as well. Michael is joined by other members of Circulus: Will Summers (flutes, recorders, and other ancient instruments) and Antony Elvin (vocals, drums, cymbals). Some of the music is really fantastic if you like this early Renaissance music. Michael does some amazing female vocal impersonations that are quite impressive. This collection of tracks was recorded in Will’s living room in Feb 2009. Anyway, if you are a fan of Circulus, you will enjoy this quite a lot. I am really happy that these guys are making music again. I am a big fan of the releases on the Rise Above record label.

Both of these releases are sold out now so this review is mostly just to let you all know that this music exists and is quite cool, espeically the Wheal Jane CD-R.
