Gravity Field- Gravity Field
(Self Released)
From Aural Innovations May 2009 update
This is the debut project by John Bassett (singer and songwriter in KingBathMat).
He played all the instruments except the drums, as well as recorded and produced
these 8 digital tracks. Paris based think Tank is a nice spacey Porcupine Tree
influenced melodic metal track with a cool heavy guitar riff. Psychoanalyze
also features a pretty crunchy metal riff but is a slower paced track and a
bit psychedelic at times and a very cool middle section with a good bass line
and some samples. Sheeple also has a heavy guitar and is less melodic and almost
angry in nature at times. Maybe this is where the Rage against the Machine influence
comes in that is mentioned in the bio. Illuminati Apocalypse has a almost Nirvana
like guitar riff in this instrumental track. Chapter 322 has a quite interesting
effected vocal and a strange sound from a synth that is a bit freaky in this
pretty riff heavy rocker for most of the song until the spacey keyboard ending.
Dead Cat Bounce has a very catchy guitar riff and really rocks. Also a lot of
cool spacey, psychedelic elements are mixed in as well. The Well of Sorrow is
a more 70’s style track and features John’s best vocals on the CD.
I would say this is almost like progressive metal except there are very few
guitar solos or keyboard solos of any kind. John just writes good mostly melodic
songs with heavy guitar riffs.
This release is currently only sold as download (for £4) through the bands
web site but there is hope it will be released as a double CD with Vol 1 and
Vol 2 in later 2009.
