Twisted Sister - ' Live At The Astoria, 2004' CD + DVD (Demolition Records)
Catalog number: DVE003
From Aural Innovations May 2009 update
Awesome reunion show, of the ' 80's metal band Twisted Sister, featuring all
five original members. Gig took place on August 1, 2004 at the Astoria Theater
in London, UK. Both the audio CD and the DVD are pretty much the same except
the DVD runs a little longer when a couple of the band members address the audience
now and then between songs. If you were a big Twisted Sister fan like I was
back in the day, this CD will likely spend a lot of time in your stereo. Tunes
here that managed to get me to think back were the ass-kicking opener "What
You Don't Know (Sure Can't Hurt You)", the unforgettable "Under The
Blade", the full-throttled rocker "Like A Knife In The Back",
"Ride To Live" (always great to hear while on the road), one of my
personal favorites "Shoot 'Em Down", "You Can't Stop Rock And
Roll", "I Am, I'm Me", the audience anticipated "I Wanna
Rock" and "Sick Mother F***er". Liked how during the intro to
"The Fire Still Burns", guitarist Jay Jay French airs his complaint
about the lame-o TV show 'American Idiot' (er, I mean 'American Idol' ). Just
in case anyone doesn't remember the line-up, I'll list it here: Dee Snider -
vocals, Jay Jay French and Eddie Ojeda - guitar & vocals, Mark Mendoza -
bass & vocals and last but not least - A. J. Pero - drums. After seeing
all five players donning the full make-up and costumes, it's almost as if 1984
never really ended. There aren't a lot of metal bands that can, nor will successfully
pull that off. Both the sound and picture quality are top notch. Definitely,
a must-have.
