Karcius - Episodes
(Unicorn Digital)

From Aural Innovations October 2009 update

Karcius is an instrumental Canadian four piece band who really kicked my ass. This is their third record and I had never heard of this group before but this is some pretty awesome stuff. The band are from Montreal and play some pretty complex and very interesting music, with heavy guitars, great dynamics and some really amazing guitar playing. Simon really impressed me a lot. The opening piece Elements is 30 minutes long and broken up into three pieces, each with it’s own flavour. Incident starts off with acoustic guitar in a sort of Spanish feeling before the piano takes the lead. The track builds up brilliantly and ends with a piano outro. The short Levant is a beautiful piece of music, again lead by the piano. Purple King leads in with some bass lines followed by the drums, keyboard pads and then a nice delay guitar follows as the track builds and has a slightly ominous feeling before the melodic guitar solo takes us into the track. The track really takes off with a very heavy guitar riff balanced by the piano. A great Hammond solo kicks in at the end as the band is really kicking ass. Great track and what a work out. Racines ends the CD and starts off as a spacey dub track, which is unlike anything else on the CD. Great album…
