Dali’s Llama - Raw is Real
(Dali’s Llama Records)

From Aural Innovations April 2010 update

This is the bands 8th CD. I have only heard the last three but this band is for sure doing cool stuff. The last two have been produced by Scott Reeder (Kyuss). As usual, Zakk Huskey (guitar and vocals) has written all the songs. It seems they don’t have much else to do out in the desert but rock out and make some cool music. The CD features 10 songs and is a bit heavier and darker than the previous records. The opening title track is quite dark and angry. Next up, Theocracy is more melodic, a bit spacey and has a cool groove but is also hard hitting at times. Interesting lyrics. Hell No slows things down but is still grooving. Hell No has a strange break before kicking in with some lead guitar for 15 seconds… Grump sounds like Nirvana! What’s up with that? Always also reminds me of Nirvana in a way with its melodic elements and the way the track flows but then it jumps out with a short guitar solo at the end to take you by surprise. Slug Man hits back hard like the opening number and also kicks up the pace at a bit. He even uses the chorus “no Man at all” from the Gas Giant number from the Mana record. Eve’s Navel is a more psychedelic rock track with a bit more effected guitar sound and both guitarists playing leads and strange stuff rather than just riffing. Syphilization (Cool name) has a more melodic vocal line but the music is still tuned down and grooving…. Blackout is another pretty catchy but more angry track. Fluids ends this pretty damn cool CD. I wish they had some longer guitar solos and not just all riffing on most of the tracks but I am a solo addict. The CD has a lot of cool songs.
