The Future Kings of England - The Viewing Point
(Backwater Records OLKCD018)
From Aural Innovations April 2010 update
I had only heard the name of this band before but never the music. The wonderfully designed digipack has a strange story in the first panel and is in some way suppose to help you to take the trip, that is this 6 tracks of instrumental music that follow. The opening piece (Go) could easily have been on Atom Heart Mother by Pink Floyd! Sea Saw is next and the band take off on a riff quite similar to Capt Beyond but it is highlighted by a lot of keyboards, before the mood changes. The Cold Hard truth is a short track that leads into the mellow and spacey Time flies like an Arrow, which again brings back a Pink Floyd vibe in its long 13 minute journey with some intense moments and fantastic flying lead guitar at the end. Rain later, Good, is a short piece that could easily have been on Meddle or Obscured by Clouds. The CD ends with the title track, The Viewing Point. This is another long and spacey piece with some blues guitar at the end. Excellent album.
