Yes - The Lost Broadcasts DVD
(Voiceprint Records VPDVD71)
From Aural Innovations April 2010 update
When something like this appears, just a month or so after seeing the band in December 2009, it sure is a trip to the past. The current line up has only Chris Squire of the original members that played on most of this DVD (remember Steve Howe was not the original guitar player). Yes, they look a bit different now. Anyway, what classic footage and very well restored and presented. Any fan of early YES will for sure really enjoy this even though it is not very long (43 minutes). The first three tracks, No Opportunity Necessary No Experience Needed (Richie Havens), Looking Around and Survival are all from November 1969 (in black and white) and without Steve Howe. Banks and Tony Kaye were also amazing players as this is pretty intense stuff and check out the young Bill Bruford! Jon’s voice had not really matured into what it would later become here. And Yes, Chris Squire is still leading the sound with the heavy Rickenbacker bass and in your face style. Time and a Word is from February 1970 (and is lip synced) and then we have Yours is no Disgrace with Steve Howe from the German TV (Beat Club) April 1971. This is an amazing version with super cool screen effects and psyched out stuff. The liner notes say there is another filmed version of Yours is no Disgrace played a bit faster but it is not here. Pity. Also included are 3 takes of All Good People from the same broadcast. Great period material.
