Etchno - "Dub.bass.neptanc.hu"
(Gypsy House Entertainment GHCD001)
From Aural Innovations #20 (July 2002)
This is quite a special CD from Hungary. It is an experiment of reviving old Hungarian folk traditions and making these known through the most modern genre of music (electronica). The old Hungarian traditions meet the new music at their most common point, the rhythm. The was produced in connection with a live theatre performance group called Ürömi-Öröm Néptáncmühely, dancers of a traditional folk group dancing to the sound of electronic music. This is an all Hungarian compilation CD of various artists performing a mixture of dub, techno, drum and bass and ambient music. Some of it is very cool and some of it, I just don't quite get. Emil, the leader of Korai Öröm has a solo track and Laszlo Hortobaygi also contributes a track but other than those artists, I am not familiar with the bands. The CD also has a video clip of the group performing to one of the tracks as well as some additional information and pictures.
