Autism - "((Vibro))"
(Segment 2002, item 022002a3)

From Aural Innovations #21 (October 2002)

Vadim Militsin, aka Autism, hails originally from the country of Belarus. He currently resides in New York where he works his electronic alchemy: a blend of organic and digital electronics in the vein of Oval, To Rococo Rot, and Pan Sonic.

On his latest release, ((Vibro)), Militsin forgoes the techno dance minimalism of his earlier works in favor of more complex sonic structures. Unlike a lot of techno from the 90's, where rhythm was what the music was all about, modern IDM, or intelligent dance music utilizes rhythm to enhance the other sonic aspects of the music. So it is with Autism's creations. Understated percussion drives wintry drifts of sound; clicks, bleeps, gurgles, sampled glitches, and subtle touches of electronic feedback wash and crackle through the mix, reverberating within, while restrained melodies weave their way in and out of the sonic framework of the pieces. Sometimes the music can be sterile and futuristic, as on the opening track, Vibronautics and in the tranquilizing chill of Valium. At other times, the music is lush and fluidic, as on the humid The ** UC and the swampy Giant Gills. Each track has its own unique atmosphere. Each atmosphere fits into the whole that is ((Vibro)).

If you enjoy electronica that is less about dancing, and more about charting the unseen landscapes of the human mind, uncovering hidden emotions in the process, then Autism's ((Vibro)) will surely satisfy.
