Spiritu - s/t
(Meteor City 2002, MCY-025)

From Aural Innovations #21 (October 2002)

The band is lead by the co-founder of Meteorcity, Jadd, and produced by Jack Endino, who has produced Nirvana, Soundgarden and Nebula. Gives them some credibility that they could get Jack into the project (or they had a lot of money). The band have produced a heavy record of desert rock with 6 long tracks. Z (Noonday Demon) opens the CD and is a melodic heavy song. Seems quite a few bands have incorporated a bit of the TOOL sound into their projects these days. Jadd is not a bad singer but he sounds a bit strained and unnatural at times. The CD has quite a good sound but perhaps a little too clean, which takes away some of the power. Glorywhore is a 9 minute tune with a lot of variety and a very cool bass during some parts. This song is the showcase of the bands sound, with a slow building groove and a very Sabbathy ending. The Sir Lord Baltimore cover song (you guess!) is one of the stand out tracks on the CD. A pretty decent debut and not likely to disappoint.
