Club Telex Noise Ensemble - "CTNERMX"
(pHinnMilk Records 2003, phnnmlk-3)
From Aural Innovations #24 (July 2003)
This is a compilation of remixes by various people of the experimental Finnish outfit Club Telex Noise Ensemble, who have since disbanded. To give you some idea of what kind of music we are dealing with here is the personnel and what they play: Mikko "mini" Niemelä: Roland MC-202, mixer, vocoder vocals, FX; Erkki "pHinn" Rautio: Yamaha Portasound PCS-30, FX, vocoder vocals; Koivumäki: Hitachi C-VI60C, Casiotone MT-70, Bass Dr.Pad DRP-III; Olli Sotamaa: cornet, vocals; Mikko Ojanen: space echo unit. The remixes are performed by people from not only Finland but also Sweden, Netherlands, US and Canada as well. One of their previous releases was also reviewed in aural innovations (see AI #18)) and I would say since I never heard the original mixes it is different, but some of this stuff is very dark, freaky, spaced out and disturbing, but has lots of cool ideas and it must have been great to see live in Tampere, Finland where they had a visual show to accompany their performances!
