Acid King - "III"
(Small Stone Records 2005, SS-054)
From Aural Innovations #32 (November 2005)
Ok… Lori S. and Acid King, the San Francisco based tuned down stoner rock band from the depths of somewhere you don't want to be trapped. This is the bands first new release since 2001 and probably the best sounding one yet. This is music that it really helps to get into if you get really stoned. Slowly prodding anthems with spaced out vocals too far in the back and basic heavy guitar riffs (virtually no guitar solos of any kind). The bass playing is very cool at times and if they did not have such a solid drummer it could be way too boring. I totally dug War of the Mind, the 11 min monster track in the middle of the CD! Lori S. could use some variety in the way she sings. It is more or less the same on every track. Heavy shit and depending on your mental state you will find this wicked cool or dead boring.
