Circle - "General"
(Super Melsä SUPER-014)

From Aural Innovations #33 (March 2006)

This is one of several Circle releases to come out in the last 6 months. This is a limited edition vinyl record recorded live on June 6th, 2004 in Chemnitz. The A side features the track, "Hermes/Styx", which begins as an electric piano improvisation of sorts before the rest of the band kick in, and Mika freaks out on the vocals as the groove gets more and more intense and hypnotic and loads of far out sounds bubble up and out and around your room. Very far out stuff. Side B continues the track "Styx" and goes into "Metsåan Henget" and "Armo", which all 3 run together into one 23 minute piece. "Styx" fades in and the sound is totally otherworldly… and this fades into Mika sort of talking-singing as the far out soundscape is faded out and another trip starts to take form with some strange guy talking in Finnish quite loudly. Strange stuff. The electric piano improve is now returning and a real music groove takes form until the end and spirals out of control. Circle continue to push the boundaries of their music further and further out, while still remaining fresh and exciting. Amazing!
