Harmsway - "Oxytocin"
(Black Lodge Records BLOD038)
From Aural Innovations #34 (August 2006)
I have never heard of this band but for some reason, but some of the music really grabbed me but not for long. This band has old members from Transport League, Born of Fire, Merciless and is lead by Freddie from Terrafirma (he wrote all the songs except one). This Swedish band mix straight up melodic (QOTSA sound) sound with metal guitars. Million Ways is like Dozer. As Time Goes by and High becomes Low are probably the best two tracks on the CD and great songs. The band soon runs out of ideas though and has to recycle itself with the same too cliché melodic stuff over and over. The QOTSA style singing is way over used. Move your Face is one of those too melodic tracks, trying to get the band on the pop radio or something…no solos…just sappy singing… Tsuanmi is a pretty boring riff rock instrumental. 9 out of 10 is pretty much the same. Prime Time is quite fast paced but that is it….Hocus Pocus ends the CD and begins with a killer riff, like some of the Terrafirma stuff and returns to the cool stuff like on the opening tracks. Not good enough…..
