Acid King- The Early Years
(Leafhound Records LHR-013)
From Aural Innovations #36 (May 2007)
Leafhound Records have just released the first two Acid King releases (debut
10” and Zoroaster) on this CD. These date back to 1994 and 1995 and have
been out of print for some time now. The sound has been remastered (whatever
that fucking means) by Billy Anderson (Men of Porn), who also did the original
sessions. For those not familiar with Acid King, they are a three piece playing
very heavy stoned doom rock. Lori S (ex- Melvins), lays down some heavy shit
on the guitar (although rarely any solos) as well as all the vocals. The tracks
all sound quite a lot as there is hardly any solos or any sort or interesting
guitar to mix things up, just pure uninhibited tuned down guitar riffing stoner
doom from hell. Plain and simple! Acid King III was better but this is where
it all started….
