Radiopuhelimet- Viisi Tähteä
(If Society IF-39)

From Aural Innovations #37 (Sep 2007)

Radiopuhelimet is a 20-year-old legendary band from Oulu, Finland. The band is notorious for aggressive songs, powerful rhythms and original lyrics (in Finnish). Now the band has been activated again, and a new album was released on If Society. Viisi tähteä (Five Stars in English) puts together tight and hard freak rock riffs, punky attitude, funky grooves, bluesy moods and some heavy guitar psych elements. The band plays very well together after 20 years, and this is a rather enjoyable album, especially if you understand the lyrics. Most of the tracks are pretty wild and the same goes for the vocals, as well. Not much for space heads here, but “Rajoja” is a great, heavy track that gets rather psychedelic. “Kammennogorsk?” is a punky track with hypnotic feel and features P. Dassum from Deep Turtle on solo guitar. Many of the Aural Innovations readers might know him for his work with former Radiopuhelimet label mates Circle. “Nimetön päivä” is a slower, bluesy number with softer vocals and for example tremolo guitar. The last track is a 30-second-long hard core eruption called “Moottoriperse” (“Motorass”). This album rocks! Also available on vinyl.
