Südstern 44- Südstern 44
(Nasoni Records 088)
From Aural Innovations #37 (Sep 2007)
Süstern 44 is a pretty new German band on the scene and features Sula Bassana on drums. He has also played with most of the rest of this band in other projects including the Nasoni Pop Art Experimental Band. Like their debut CD-r release on the Sulatron label, this is jamming psychedelic rock. The first couple of tracks feature vocals reminds me of Liquid Visions (with a female singer!). Mindfuck has an interesting build to it and when you think they are going to just completely freakout like Acid Mothers Temple, they don’t! Still pretty tripped out ending, though. Most of the rest of the CD is much more spaced out jamming though… Kauderwelsch maschine reminds me a bit of Sonic Youth, with it’s noisy sound (but I love the cool djembe playing in the world of feedback and guitars!).. Südsee is a 10 min trip and begins quite slowly but features some really nice guitar soloing as the cosmic groove moves forward… The CD ends with the 15 minute Freishwimmer, along nice jamming groovy number… Julius gets to show off a bit..
