A.G. Carinae- Paranormalized
(Self Released)
From Aural Innovations #38 (Jan 2008)
This is a very interesting and cool release by this new Ohio band. Think of
it as a sort of rock record for a horror movie. The band’s name is pronounced
Care-n-nay, just so you don’t get it wrong… The CD also came with
a DVD with a really cool video production for the track Apparition. The CD begins
with a dream like sequence and then into a metallic track with some keyboards.
Quite dark. Sometimes I can hear that these guys like TOOL (they never sound
like them though). The guitar is the lead instrument in this band. I think the
CD would be so much more effective if the drums were not so thin and terrible
sounding. This is very hard to describe this stuff. Delirium is one of the stand
out tracks. I also like the way the band mix in little samples, makes it a little
disturbing…Apparition is like a cross between Porcupine Tree and Rick
Ray. Another song about Dying reminds me of Blue Oyster Cult but with not nearly
as good vocals. Red moon over Egypt is a very eerie number but also melodic.
This is one of the best tracks on the CD. Brink of Extinction brings back a
more heavy guitar rock but with that strange twist, like the Brain Surgeons..
Soul Reflection is a mellow track to bring you back down to reality before the
scary ending…. Cool stuff…
