La Ira de Dios- Cosmos Kaos Destruction
(World in Sound WIS 3005)

From Aural Innovations #39 (May 2008)

The new La Ira De Dios has been unleashed. For those not familiar with the band they are from Peru and quite influenced by heavy space rock stuff but in a more stoned way. It will be tough for them to follow up on the amazing last double LP. The band has switched to a new label and also a bit of a change in direction. The music is faster paced, the songs shorter (only 3 or 4 minutes) and punky but still maximally spaced out! This reminds me a bit of Helios Creed but with this really basement garage sound. The CD begins with Quemando and it is a great track and very spacey and heavy. The next three tracks (Velocidad and Kaos and Aburrido) are pretty fast paced and just run over you like an out of control and totally spaced out freight train. Sometimes the space sounds are really intense and the vocals spaced out at times. Pobre Diablo slows things down and takes you out into deep stoned space. These guys have for sure not stopped smoking the good stuff. Campo de Vampiros is a kind of stoned surf song by a Peruvian band called Los Holys. El Facto is another more punky track but very spaced out vocals and psychedelic. The CD ends with Jamas Morire, the longest track at nearly 9 minutes. A little bit of Hawkwind in this track towards the end and a nice spaced out instrumental section, actually most of this piece. Stoned music for stoned people for sure… Oh yeah… a hidden track called Vertigo appears after less than a minute after the very intense CD ending. This is another high powered space punk thing. Pretty damn cool CD. I can’t wait to see the band live for the first time at Roadburn. Oh yeah… One thing I find a little weird is the Xtian A, who does all the effects is not listed in the member list but off to the side in the credits, when this guy plays a huge part in their spaced out sound. What’s up?
