Lashing Patsy- The Nightclub Trophies
(Music Spot MPE003)
From Aural Innovations #39 (May 2008)
Lashing Patsy is a new 6 piece Malmö, Sweden based band. It is quite
cool when a band really go back to the roots of the sound that they are shooting
for and not just say so in the bio and then just sound like another pop band
citing cool musical references. These guys (and 1 gal) are the real deal. Hand
of God opens the CD and really took me back to the early Brian Eno and Roxy
Music records. Waiting for You features the female vocalist Anna (heavily backed
up by the men) and is a happy track. Foxy Roxy Music is next and really does not
need any explanation, does it? Bittersweet Applause is a bit more psychedelic
and groovy. A nice change including some lead guitar playing. Painted Smile is
a real short track, just over 2 minutes long and keeps the more psychedelic side
of the band alive. A touch of early Pink Floyd and Bowie. Judas features several
of the members on the vocals and is bit Lou Reed like in some ways. Everlasting,
Pure and for Real is a more uptempo track with some crazy changes in the track
and a nice synth solo, one of the few. Prime Time is the most rocking track
on the CD. The CD ends with Your love will always Shine, a more moody track
and a nice way to end this CD. Quite an excellent debut, I have to say…
Impressed…
