Seven that Spells - "The Man from Dystopia"
(Beta-Lactam Ring Records 2007, m027a)
From Aural Innovations #40 (September 2008)
This killer Croatian band keeps delivering the goods and putting out a lot of releases. I just managed to get this one for review and I can see they have two I have not heard and one more they are mixing right now. Anyway, this was recorded in 2006 and then Kawabata from Acid Mothers Temple joined in to complete this long 75 minute jam broken up into 5 parts. The piece starts really nice and slow and very spacey with Kawabata playing some sitar in the first two parts and everything is building up. Just cool psychedelic rock jamming, but by part III the band is really flying and the AMT influence is in full force with chanting, repeated riffing and totally over the top insane guitar acrobatics. Part IV features quite a bit of feedback and repetition and seems to drone along, but just be patient, as it gets even stranger. The fifth and final part is pretty tripped out and ends this psychedelic freakout of a CD. Tripped out...
