Elfferich Four - "Eccentricity"
(Musea Records 2007, GW 3116.AR)
From Aural Innovations #40 (September 2008)
This is a new Dutch band to me but this is their 4th release. The band used to be a quartet (with saxophone) but they are stripped down to three. All songs
are written by the drummer and they purposely insist on playing in odd time signatures. The music is all instrumental and very guitar oriented, like Trigon
or Joe Satriani. The guitar player is excellent and he does not try to show off or be a "star", but plays cool and imaginative stuff, especially since this is all recorded separately, with the drums in one studio and the bass and guitar in another. I am sure that Jeroen has some sketches for the others to follow for these tracks. I wonder how they would make an album just all jamming in the studio? Maybe the next one.
