Acid Mothers Temple & The Melting Paraiso UFO - "Interstellar Guru And Zero"
(Homeopathic Records 2009, HMC003)
From Aural Innovations #41 (October 2010)
Another piece of decent Japanese space rock noise coming your cosmic way from the Acid Mothers Temple camp. Since the band had released literally eight (8) discs in 2008, it appears they may've slowed down a bit as to putting out simply too many CD's in one short span of time. Yes, I believe that our wallets just might appreciate that move, guys. On this CD, like several other Acid Mothers titles, there are just two tracks. First there's Astral Projection From Holy Shangrila (18:38) where it's fun to put on the headphones for, but not much different from several other AMT discs that you likely already have. But then again, does it really matter that much? Has some lyrics repeating itself at the beginning but after the eight-minute mark, this tune tends to sound a bit like a mutated Led Zeppelin song. Not bad. Then there's the super-lengthy title cut Interstellar Guru And Zero (39:02) where we get an all-out fully bloomed psychedelic freak-out with the heavy 'space rock-noise' element apparently put on hold. Line-up: Kawabata Makoto - guitar, sitar, organ, tape-loop & voice, Higashi Hiroshi - synthesizer, Tsuyama Atsushi - bass, tortoise shell guitar & voice and Koji Shimura - drums. CD comes housed in a thin cardboard holder - with a specially cut -fold-out cover - similar to a die-cut album - but, of course in the compact disc version. Enjoy.
