TULITERÄÄ - "Clarity"
(FINLAND 2010, CD-EP)
From Aural Innovations #41 (October 2010)
This is a new Finnish band. They are four members and play pretty cool uptempo and spacey instrumental music. The first two tracks on this 30 minute CD-EP are in a soundtrack for a Finnish movie called Anni. Monad starts the CD off and is a very uptempo piece that uses a couple of cool layers of synths that really drive the song and it is quite psychedelic. This track reminds me a bit of a meeting of Hidria Spacefolk and Taipuva Luotisuora. Very melodic, spacey and high energy. New Clarity has a heavier guitar line and some solos that were missing in the first track. This is very intense stuff with a lot of sound going on, yet it really grabs you and takes you along for an excellent journey. Fantastic track. Voidborn, a long 11 minute track is not much less intense and will be on the bands debut album called Tulikaste. The track also features Jaire from Octopus Syng on sitar, buried deep in the mix somewhere. This track is really cool, with some very spacey parts and it sounds even more like a movie soundtrack for a deep space alien film from the Finnish forest. The last track, Tunguska, Siberia finishes the EP. It features acoustic guitar and is also quite spacey and sounds like it could be in a horror film. Fans of Aron will like this track. I can't wait for this bands first CD. Very impressive stuff.
