Dragontears - "Turn On Tune In Fuck Off"
(Bad Afro Records 2010, AFROCD040)
From Aural Innovations #42 (May 2011)
Band is from Copenhagen, Denmark. This will reportedly be the psychedelic / space rock band's third and final CD release. Actually, it turns out that Dragontears is a side-project of the band Baby Woodrose. I have one other of their CD's and I know that I liked 'Tambourine Freak Machine' ('08) almost as much as I do this one. 'Turn On Tune In Fuck Off' brings you six tracks - four are playing in English and two are performed in Dutch. Songs that definitely make the time zip right by when you listen to this CD are the mind-blowing power-house opener "Two Tongue Talk", "My Friend" (honestly, this track could possibly be mistaken for a Hawkwind unreleased extra or even a B-side from their 'Doremi Fasol Latido' era), the acid-drenched six-minute "Time Of No Time" and the thirteen-minute tripping epic "William". This CD will remain in my 'current rotation stack' for a while. That leaves "No Salvation" and the rocking "Mennesketvilling" - English translation - Human Twins. Saw noted on the bio sheet that 'Turn On' is guitarist Lorenzo Woodrose's closest effort he'd ever recorded at being a concept album. Line-up: Lorenzo Woodrose - guitar, bass & vocals, The Hobbit - guitar & hamonium, Lars Von Lundholm - keyboards, Moody Guru - percussion & guitar, Fuzz Daddy - oszillator, theremin & tanpura. My only regret is that this CD release of the title did not have the two special songs from the (vinyl only) edition. I believe they came on a 7" vinyl record. That's too bad. Will likely appeal to fans of Monster Magnet, Spacious Mind, Mr. Quimby's Beard and Mandra Gora Lightshow Society. Enjoy.
