August 22, 2010There's a UPDATED version of The Light from Dead Stars, the hilarious story of life in a band written by Stephen Jansen and Harvey Bainbridge (ex-Hawkwind). CLICK HERE to read chapters 1 - 3.
Howdy Y`all..... after a busy time touring around and looking after mum (she`s much better`er now!) I`ve time to up-date my blog here! I`ve released 2 new cd`s this year (somehow!) The "4 Track Mind Limited Edition 4 cd box set" which comes in a neat dvd case, full colour artwork, 4 metallic picture disc cd's, and 2 limited edition (200) full colour (both sides) postcards. All artwork has been done by the talented Kevin Sommers.
Also I`ve re-mastered, added overdubs to the original 8 trks, added 5 new trks and Kevin sommers once again has done the all new artwork to my old 2001 release "Al Chemical`s Lysergic Orchestra", now called "Al Chemical`s Lysergic Orchestra, re-mastered with xtra flashback trks".
Gunslinger have recoreded a live album at the www.sonicrocksolstice.com fest in Wales in June and I`ll be mixing it with Paul Cobbold when I get the chance to!! The front cover is compiled of 2 pictures I took in Tombstone, Arizona in May of this year while on a paid for vacation (thanx Sarah!! xxx) one of which was taken in the actual room where Doc.Holliday played/hosted his Faro game in the Oriental Saloon (which thee Earp`s ran while they were there) in 1881-82, the other picture is of the outside of Big Nose Kate`s Saloon. Kevin Sommers did his magic and the front cover looks great, very unusual..! The album will be called "UNLAWFUL ODDS" Kevin and I both came up with the title and Sarah played a hand in it too! Its our own brand of "GUN METAL!" only we can do!
On Sept 4th this year I`ve been asked by Dr.Hasbeen on sonic rock solstice to headline his "SRS 2" event caled "On Board the Craft" as "ECLECTIC DEVILS" (my lastest solo album title) so I`ve got Dan Thompson, Isobel Morris (Bruise), James Hodkinson (Xoo), Louis Davey (Gunslinger), Ron Tree and Dr.Hasbeen as the band! Big Dave`s fantastic new light show will provide the psycedelic`s/films for us! I`ve selected 15 of my best solo songs from my albums for the set. They`ll be a sexy Devil and a sexy Angel there too!
On the 3rd Sept "Group X" (Ron`s idea) will headline consisting of Dan Thompson, Jerry Richards, Harvey Bainbridge, Ron Tree, myself and maybe Danny faulkner of Pre-Med!
Gunslinger are in Eindhoven, Holland on 6th aug and on the great metal fest "Alcatraz" on 7th Aug in Belgium. Then on Sept 10th Gunslinger are at Pacific Parc Amsterdam headling and also headlining a fest "Eich-Kult" in Germany on Sept 11th (my birthday), this`ll be a great event in a great location!! Studio wise next (Harry C will be pleased to hear) is the "Djinn" album Bridget Wishart and I are working on. Its an experiment in Arabic music from Metal to ambient! One song is on this site as a taster!! This is gonna be a gooden, both Bridget and I like Arabic music alot!
Thanx for reading this rather long blog but I`ve got alot on and I`m also a bit behind on the blog front! I`m grateful for all your support and comments, you keep my going!!
regards, Alan Davey

NEW PSI CORPS "ALL ROADS LEAD TO AMBER" TO BE RELEASED AUGUST 1, 2010
New Psi Corps album "All Roads Lead to Amber: parts I&II"
inspired by Roger Zelazny's first two books from "The Amber Chronicles"
and featuring Alisa Coral (Space Mirrors), Charles Van de Kree (Jet Jaguar), Arkady Fedotov (Vespero) and Kevin Sommers (artwork for Alan Davey, Space Mirrors, Hawkwind, Gunslinger, etc..)
will be released on RAIG record label August 1, 2010.
This album continues Psi Corps soundtrack to a book concept. Me and Charles Van de Kree are fans of Roger Zelazny and when I came up with the idea of making an album based on "The Amber Chronicles" he immediately agreed to join the project. For me it is logical to do a Zelazny album after Poe album. Roger was a fan of Poe's style, especially the poetic side, and he developed his own epic and poetic language which always was Zelazny's style trademark. "Amber Chronicles" is also rather dark fantasy which perfectly fits the Psi Corps concept with gothic and Lovecraftian atmosphere, especially at some parts in "Guns of Avalon" or "Courts of Chaos". Later in his other books Zelazny paid tribute to both Poe and Lovecraft by reviving their characters and mythos.
"All Roads Lead to Amber" consists of two parts and it is recommended to listen to it in two parts. Each track relates to certain events on the book. It's not an uninterrupted continuous story (there are some skips of course) but close to this.
For example track "Battle of Kolvir" reflects what happened prior and during the great battle in the first book. The first part is a soundtrack to the preparations of the army, gathering of the forces and the battle on sea and land, the second part is about the final fight at the stairway, about the long way up, step by step, to the top of Kolvir hill, to the gates of Amber Castle itself. The music has the certain breaks, rhythm and mood changes according to what happened in the book. One of the final breaks in the Second Part where everything goes sort of quiet is a moment when Corwin throwing his Set of Trumps to his brother Bleys (he is falling down from the stairway to the sea far beneath) and saves brother's life but risks his own. Or the track "Walking the Pattern" is just what title says, it goes with all the twists, vagueness and memory backflashes as Corwin has in the book while walking the Pattern. So the music follows the events.
"All Roads Lead to Amber: Parts I & II"
Part I - The Siege of Amber:
1. Walking the Pattern (Alisa Coral)
2. Battle of Kolvir (part I) (Alisa Coral)
3. Battle of Kolvir (part II) (Alisa Coral/C. Van de Kree)
4. In the Dark/Cabra (Alisa Coral)
Part II - Along the Black Road:
5. How Many Miles to Avalon? (Alisa Coral)
6. Dark Rituals of Lorraine (Alisa Coral/C. Van de Kree)
7. Across the Black Road (Alisa Coral)
8. Valley of Garnath - The Battle (Alisa Coral/C. Van de Kree)
9. Dara (Walking the Pattern) (Alisa Coral)
line-up:
Alisa Coral – bass guitar, effects (all except 4); theremin (4,6); synthesizers, drums
Charles Van de Kree – electric guitars; acoustic guitars (4,5,6), guitar synth (2), synthesizers (5,8), detuned glockenspiel (8)
Arkady Fedotov – bass guitar (1, 2, 4)
Kevin Sommers - artworks, layout and photography
photo models: Ryan as "Corwin" and Kailee as "Lorraine"
Recorded at: KZI Studio (Moscow, Russia), Jet Propusion Laboratory (Albuquerque, USA), Vespero's mobile studio (Astrakhan, Russia) during various sessions from July 2009 to May 2010. Mixed and produced by Alisa Coral at KZI Studio.
