The Rabbit's Hat - "Outsiders"
The Rabbit's Hat's new album "Outsiders" is without doubt their best release so far. It finds them in much more "commercial" mode than their previous releases, with immaculate production and very "easy to listen to" songs, as apposed to "easy listening". Great lyrics by Tony Morland that are brought to life by Tim Jones and Terri B. Instrumentally they are flawless, there is nothing here to moan about, no niggling little faults, it's all so smooth with "Don't Stand Against The Skyline", "Silt And Sand", "Hydra", "Riding The War" and "Menage'a'Trois" standing out but there are no bad tracks here. Let's get things straight, this is one good band that deserves distribution and radio play for their efforts. We've featured them in Get Rhythm before, praising their efforts as independents - musicians travelling on their own path and doing a great job of it. You may ask what the over all feel of the album is. Well, I would think if you liked early Genesis or the softer side of Jefferson Airplane, some Traffic - from their "Low Spark" period, even some John Strong, you would feel at home. Of all the albums that pass through Rhythm Towers, this one keeps finding it's way onto the deck. The constant attraction of the above named songs… listening again to the quirky "How Did The Lady Die". Terri B's vocals improve with every recording, Tim has a unique and listenable voice with a great "edge" to it. Congratulations to all involved.
