The Rabbit's Hat - "Pierce The Dark"
The Rabbit's Hat have again released a self supported CD, and some CD it is! This "Pierce The Dark" makes us again painfully wonder why this group has stayed up to now practically unknown. The fact that in the meantime they are being distributed by the very choosy Musea label is already a step in the right direction. As its three predecessors, this CD has all the ingredients of a perfect pop-rock album. On the track "Sweetmeats Of The Dead", Norm Emerson treats us to a nice portion of funky drumming, interwoven with mysterious two voice-vocals (Tim Jones & Terri-B) and with Tim's delicious floating guitar solos like STEVE HILLAGE. Once again, I am reminded of his guitar playing on "Valley Of The Shadow". On "Hiatus", the space-sounds and the always mysterious voice of Terri-B enhance very much the dream-like feel. The sound effects on "Valley Of The Shadow" make me think of early YES, with some GENESIS ingredients and "Immaculate Deception" adds a little FLEETWOOD MAC, thanks to the voice of Terri-B sounding here very much like STEVIE NICKS. On "We Got Rot", Tim's guitar sounds appealingly rocky, like EDDIE VAN HALEN through the use of distortion and with Rabbit playing the same notes on the bass but one octave lower. On the devilish sounding "Baird, My Soul", we get to hear the same guitar sound once in a while. Tim Jones and Terri-B wrote the music for all of the tracks and North East lyricist Tony Morland again wrote all the words. An excellent CD
