The Rabbit's Hat - "Lapsit Exillis""

I know it's been a while since I've heard ol' RH, and it's been too long. In my humble opinion, this album is like a fresh breeze and far and away makes up for it. Old faves such as Yellow Submarine, The Moon, Daft Bastard, Hard World (where the violin adds such a weight, sounds almost like a bloody mellotron!), and More Than Ashes are all unplugged, and like many a good band, there's no let up in quality here. In fact, a more defined and focussed direction seems to have been achieved. Nine tracks in all, with Terri B, Tim Jones, Terry Conner on violin, Dave McClean on bass and Dave Pipkin on Roland V Drums. Song for song, Census and RH share a lot in common, it's the extras and segues that strike them apart, but pound for pound they both are more than capable of writing some great songs, and if you like your music simple, effective and unpolluted (with a great production and the odd sting in the tale!) then look no further - Lapsit is a remarkably pure and honest album.
